Nicolas Cage stuns fans in tartan suit as he details his love for shortbread

Nicolas Cage has stunned fans after turning up to his latest red carpet appearance in a tartan suit as he proclaimed his love for shortbread.

The National Treasure actor was attending the premiere for his latest film, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, at the South by Southwest festival in Texas on Saturday in a stunning tartan suit.

The 58-year-old actor stunned fans again as he went on a rant about his love for shortbread, which actually inspired his outfit for the premiere.

However, the actor made a big blunder after telling the interviewer he gets shortbread from England – instead of Scotland, where the sweet treat originates.

Cage said: “I really like shortbread and whenever I’m in England I go get a tin can of shortbread and I was feeling kinda happy, kinda like I was biting into some shortbread so tonight I wanted to dress like I was a can of shortbread.”

He laughed and continued: “I broke out my plaid.

“Actually, I didn’t know what I was gonna wear. I’m in New Orleans filming and working on the Dracula project and I was like, I have nothing to wear at South by Southwest and then I walked to Brooks Brothers and they had a plaid suit and I was like, I knew you guys do seersucker, I didn’t know you did plaid.

“And I said, ‘Wow, I’m gonna wear this and what’s more, I’m gonna really enjoy that I’m in a plaid suit because I’ve never had one before’. So that’s why.”

Many Scots who watched the viral clip couldn’t help but cringe at the actor’s implication shortbread is from England.

One commented: “*screams in Scottish*”

“Shortbread from England aye? And that traditionally English tartan… throws things in Scottish,” another user joked.

Another fan tweeted: “Millions of Scots just cried out at the implication shortbread is English”

“Tell me you think Scotland is in England without telling me…” a fourth wrote.

A fifth quipped: “If he really liked shortbread he would get it from Scotland.”

While others were just amused by the random speech.

One user commented: “he is so happy about his suit he is perfect”

“Long story short: shortbread.”

Another joked: “Take a shot every time Nick says shortbread”
