McFadden wins 285 title, leads Baxter wrestlers at North Tama – Newton Daily News


TRAER — Aiden McFadden won all four of his matches and the Bolts’ heavyweight won his first tournament of the season as the Bolts tied for seventh at the North Tama Redhawk Invitational on Saturday.

Baxter’s wrestling team had just six grapplers in the field. Only McFadden and Callyn Bishop won more than two matches for the day.

McFadden won the 285-pound title after winning all four of his matches by fall. Bishop finished fourth at 160 after going 3-2 with three pins.

The other four Bolts who competed were Cole Smith (120), Tanner Shanks (145), Curtis Gliem (152) and Michael Wilhelm (170).

Smith split his first two matches at 120 before suffering an injury. He forfeited his third match and medical forfeited the final two bouts. He ended up sixth.

Shanks, Gliem and Wilhelm all were 0-4 and finished seventh at their weight classes.

Hudson won the team title with 191 points and Sigourney-Keota (155), North Tama (137.5), Columbus Catholic (126) and BGM (123) completed the top five. Des Moines Roosevelt (98.5) was sixth and Baxter (43.5) and HLV (43.5) tied for seventh.

Bolts down Montezuma at L-S quadrangular

SULLY — McFadden took three forfeits, Smith went 2-0 with a pin and the Bolts downed Montezuma during a road quadrangular on Thursday night.

Baxter defeated the Braves 42-33 and lost a close one to English Valleys/Tri-County, 38-30. Lynnville-Sully got the best of the Bolts, winning 46-6.

The only win the Bolts got in the dual with L-S was a McFadden forfeit at 285.

Against Montezuma, the Bolts lost the only contested match but took seven forfeits. Those forfeits came from McFadden (285), Smith (120), Zoey Gliem (126), Jack Anderson (132), Shanks (145), Curtis Gliem (152) and Bishop (160).

In the narrow loss to EVTC, Baxter was 2-3 in contested matches. Smith and Bishop both won their matches by fall and McFadden (285), Zoey Gliem (126) and Wilhelm (170) were given forfeits. EVTC also were given three forfeits.
