Eddie Hearn reveals meeting set with Anthony Joshua to discuss his next move with team ‘torn’ over stepping aside for Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk

Anthony Joshua is set to decide his immediate future this week.

Matchroom chairman Eddie Hearn explained he will sit down with AJ and his team to decide what their next move is and talkSPORT understands the fighter’s team is ‘torn’ on what to do, but they’re confident he’ll reach a decision.

Hearn told Sky Sports: “I’m meeting with AJ and 258 management [on Tuesday] to go through plans for his next fight.

“We have a number of proposals and options to discuss.

“The goal remains the same of course – to re-capture the world heavyweight crown.”

Oleksandr Usyk dethroned Joshua last September, taking his belts in an impressive unanimous decision and it was rumoured that AJ would accept £15million to step aside and face the winner of a unification fight between WBC champion Tyson Fury Usyk.

But Joshua has said this isn’t the case.

“You know what’s bad about all these interviews I see, I see certain interviews that quote what I said and I think to myself ‘I ain’t done no interviews’. Where did this person get this information from?

“I’m hearing people saying ‘AJ accepts £15m to step aside’. I ain’t signed no contract. I ain’t seen no contract

“Stop listening to the b******* until it comes from me. I’m the man in control of my own destiny. I’m the man that handles my business. I’m a smart individual and I make calculated decisions every step of the way.

“Don’t listen to the b******* from other sources. If I tell you something then you know it’s real.”

A talkSPORT source working on negotiations for a potential unification fight between Fury and Usyk remains hopeful an agreement can be reached whereby Joshua and WBC mandatory challenger Dillian Whyte both step aside.

However, British heavyweight Dave Allen, who has sparred with Usyk had some hard truths to share with talkSPORT when quizzed about Joshua’s chances of winning back his titles.

Allen said it doesn’t matter what approach AJ takes in the rematch.

“There’s one way to beat Usyk,” he said. “I don’t think AJ can do what it takes. I don’t give him a chance of beating him.

“Only Fury can beat Usyk – no one else on the planet.

“AJ was taught to box out of a book. Usyk eats those books for breakfast.”

For Joshua, he has the legal obligation to fight Usyk next. If he wants to do that, then nothing else matters – that will happen.

But if he does decide to wait and potentially spend longer with whatever new trainer he decides to go with then he gets the fight he always wanted – an undisputed title shot against the winner of Fury vs Usyk.
